Personal Life
editPirkul grew up in Ankara. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Bosphorous University in Istanbul.[2]
He moved from Ankara, Turkey, to Pasadena, California, in the 1970s. One of 58 Turkish high school students selected for a year-long program abroad.[3].
Immediately after graduation, he came to the United States to attend Simon School at the University of Rochester, double majoring in Operations Management and in Information Systems.His academic advisor was Bezalel Gavish.
Upon leaving Rochester, he joined the Fisher School at Ohio State University. He worked there for 15 years and rose through the ranks to full professor.[4]
In 1996, he was invited to consider the deanship at The University of Texas at Dallas. He was the dean at UT Dallas Business School from 1996 to 2024. UT Dallas School of Management is ranked as a top 10 business school in the United States.[5]
