Hei! Jangan Kau Patahkan (English: Hey! Do Not Break It) is a choral composition by Ananda Sukarlan, a setting of the sonnet by Sapardi Djoko Damono. Commissioned by Rizal Tandrio for the Seven Chorale, Sukarlan scored it for unaccompanied four-part treble voices (SSAA) and was published in June 2007.

History

edit

The text is taken from the sonnet of the same name by Sapardi Djoko Damono. Lyrically, it brings up the children to take care of their plants and environment around them.[1]

Music

edit

The work is in 2 minutes 45 seconds long, with a "funky" opening and a quiet, lyrical ending. It is set for four-part treble voices, which consist of two distinct sopranos and two distinct altos.

Performances

edit

On 17 July 2008, Bina Vokalia children and youth choir performed this piece, after the shortened version of A Hymn for the Olympic Sportsmen, during the The Greatest Hits of Ananda Sukarlan concert, at the Alila Hotel, Jakarta.[1][2]
