The Honorary Badge of the Commonwealth of Independent States is the highest award bestowed by the CIS, established by a decision of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States on October 7, 2002.
History:
editThe Honorary Badge was officially established during a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS in Chisinau on October 7, 2002. Regulations governing the badge, its description, and the certificate were approved at the same time. Despite its official establishment in 2002, it was first presented on June 1, 2001, to former President of the Republic of Moldova, Petru Lucinschi.
Description:
editThe badge is a chain featuring a twelve-pointed equilateral star with a silver-plated emblem of the CIS on a blue enamel background. Surrounding the emblem is a golden inscription "COMMONWEALTH OF INDEPENDENT STATES" on a white enamel background. Transparent semi-precious stones adorn the star's rosettes, and twelve links representing member states' flags are attached to the chain.
