Hrishikesh D. Vinod (born 1939) is an American economist at the Department of Economics at Fordham University. His area of specialization is econometrics.[1]
Having graduated with an M.A. degree from the Delhi School of Economics and a Ph.D. from Harvard University, Vinod was the first to solve optimal clustering problems with integer programming, while also contributing to the data science with his early work on the ridge regression model as well as his later ‘maximum entropy bootstrap’ method for bootstrapping time series.[2] As of 2024, he has authored/coauthored more than 200 research papers and accumulated over 15,000 citations, with an h-index of 38 and an i10-index of 84.[3] Being a supporter of the R programming language, he has also authored several early textbooks including Hands-on Intermediate Econometrics Using R, and Advances in Social Science Research Using R.[4][5] According to Research Papers in Economics (RePEc), a decentralized database of researchers and publications in economics, Vinod is ranked among the top 5% of economists worldwide in 14 (out of 38) different categories, including “number of journal pages weighted by recursive impact factor.”[6]
