Hugo Duarte (Rio de Janeiro, August 9, 1968) is a former Brazilian sports wrestling and MMA fighter, considered one of the biggest names in sports wrestling in Brazil and one of the bravest men in the modern world. Known as the General of Luta Livre, he has over 49 years of sporting career, is an international exponent, has competed in Championships in several countries. He was one of the first Brazilian athletes to compete in MMA (mixed martial arts) championships in Japan in the 90s. He gave seminars in Europe, the United States and Japan. He was director of the Sports Wrestling Federation for several terms.
Hugo Duarte is also famous for his fight against Rickson Gracie where he was defeated, surrounded by dozens of people at Praia do Pepê in Rio de Janeiro in 1988, this fight was filmed with a camera, given to the late Ryan Gracie who was 12 years old at the time. Hugo Duarte is a former UFC Fighter.
