SEBIT is a multi-purpose suborbital sounding rocket developed by the South Korean private aerospace company INNOSPACE. Unveiled on March 31, 2026, the launch vehicle is designed as a mission-focused testing, verification, and research platform for aerospace components, scientific payloads, and microgravity experiments.[1][2]

The rocket's maiden flight is scheduled to launch from the Alcântara Space Center (CLA) in Brazil in the second half of 2026, under a commercial launch services contract signed in July 2026 with ALADA (Empresa de Projetos Aeroespaciais do Brasil).[3][4]

History and development

[edit]

INNOSPACE officially unveiled the SEBIT rocket on March 31, 2026, alongside successful ground hot-fire test results of its 3-ton propulsion system. The rocket was developed to meet commercial demand for rapid validation of space technologies, microgravity environmental testing, and defense applications.[5]

On July 6, 2026, INNOSPACE announced a launch agreement with ALADA to perform the vehicle's inaugural suborbital test flight at the Alcântara Space Center.[6] This contract represents the first commercial space launch agreement negotiated by ALADA since its establishment by the Brazilian government in late 2025.[7]

Design and technology

[edit]

Propulsion

[edit]

SEBIT is powered by a single, 3-ton-thrust hybrid rocket engine utilizing a paraffin-based solid fuel and liquid oxygen (LOX) oxidizer. This propulsion system is derived from INNOSPACE's proprietary "HyPER" technology, designed to provide customizable flight profiles and lower costs compared to conventional solid or liquid systems.

Systems and flight profile

[edit]

The rocket incorporates an integrated telemetry system for real-time monitoring of flight position, trajectory, and structural health.[8] It is designed to reach an apogee of over 50 kilometers (31 mi) to perform rapid suborbital validation tests before descending.

Planned missions

[edit]

Maiden flight (H2 2026)

[edit]

The inaugural flight of SEBIT is planned for the second half of 2026 from the Alcântara Space Center. The primary objectives of this mission are to validate the rocket's structural integrity, propulsion performance, telemetry systems, and the logistics chain at the facility.[9]
