The International Computer Vision Summer School (ICVSS) is an annual educational event established in 2007 and yearly organized by University of Cambridge and University of Catania.[1][2][3][4][5][6] It focuses on research in the field of computer vision.[7] The summer school usually lasts one week and takes place every year in July in the location of Sampieri, Sicily, Italy.[7][8][9][10] Students at the summer school attend lectures given by renowned researchers in the field of computer vision,[11] including Daniel Cremers, Leonidas J. Guibas,[12] Stefano Soatto, Michael J. Black,[13] Alexei A. Efros, William T. Freeman, Jitendra Malik,[14] Cordelia Schmid, Serge Belongie, Christopher Bishop, Philip Torr, Fei-Fei Li, Yann LeCun.[15] The students can also present their academic research during poster sessions.[7][16][17] The admission process is competitive, with students applying from over 40 countries,[18] with a limited number of participants each year and an admission rate of 16% in 2024.[7]

Recognition

[edit]

In 2017, The summer school was awarded the PAMI Mark Everingham Prize from IEEE Computer Society.[7][1][19][20]

In 2025, ICVSS was also formally recognized by the International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV), which sponsored a Best Poster Award at the summer school. The award recognized outstanding research contributions by participants and included financial support for attendance fees.[17]
