IRANI (meaning. A person of Iran origin), is a 2024 Sri Lankan Tamil-language suspense drama film, written and directed by Jegan Subramaniam in his directorial debut. Jegan has previously co-produced the Tamil Film Varnam staring Vijay Sethupathi and Sampath Raj and Monica.
Irani is Produced by Janaanniy Fredric, Thushara Jayasooriya and Vishnu Prasanna, under the studio Postmun Films, it was distributed by National Film Corporation of Sri lanka under the banner Postmun Films. It stars Rajkumar and Jayani Weerasinghe, as well as Sahan Dewa, Rejina Christopher, Danu Innasithamby, Anil Jayasinghe, Shafna Banu, Harry Manikkandan, Maruthupandian.
Plot
editThe plot is based on a story that involves an Indian spy who gets mugged and his wife and daughter kidnapped in Sri Lanka, during their visit to the Sri lankan Tea estates. He escapes and is forced to work at a remote gem mine. After years of struggle, he escapes and traces the killers at the same place where his family was kidnapped. Will he be able to find the killers? Are they recognizable? The rest is the story.
Music
editThe music and background score of the film were composed by Arun Daann. The cinematography of the film was handled by Pravin Jayaratne and editing was done by Pravin Jayaratne.
Reception
editThe film was released on 23 August[1] 2024 in Sri Lanka to widely positive reviews from critics. The movie received very positive reviews from the audience, and it had a good run in the theaters given the limited shows it was given. A critic from Ceylonsri wrote that "Merits apart, Irani boasts of a strong storyline. A new life to Sri lankan Cinema"..[2]Thana from Malayagam newspaper wrote that "Twists and Turns from the start. Kept the audience guessing and beautifully made film".[3]
