Jairo Nicolás Martínez Fernández (born Jairo De Jesús Martínez Fernández, 11 February 1955)[1] is a Colombian morning television host and Public Relations Professional.[2][3] He gained recognition locally for his previous work as a judge in the TV show Yo Me Llamo.[4]

Career

Martínez was born in Cartagena, Colombia.[5] In the 1990s he would become an advisor to Shakira at the time of her transition to the American market.[6] He moved to the United States for some time where he was a talent scout for Stefan Enterprises.[7] Martínez entered politics when he was elected as Member of the House in 2002 as representative of Colombian expats.[8] Starting in 2011 he was a judge for three seasons in the TV show Yo Me LLamo,[9][10] in which he would had several clashes with one of the other judges, Amparo Grisales.[11]

Martínez became the host of several regional TV shows such as Hoy Es el Día[12] and Entre Amigos.[13]

In 2023 he received the Ibero-American Personality of the Year award by the Organización de Periodistas (OPI).[14]

Personal Life

Martínez has three siblings.[15] He is noted for his distinctive style, particularly his choice of sunglasses, as reported by Elpunto.[16]
