Born on November 22, 1937, Jaswant Gill hailed from Sathiala in Amritsar, Punjab. He pursued his engineering in Mining Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology ISM Dhanbad. 1965 Batch, Mining Engineering. Gill, whose passing occurred on November 26, 2019, made a substantial contribution to the rescue efforts during the 1989 incident in Raniganj, West Bengal when miners were trapped inside a flooded coal mine.
