Johnny Cepeda Gogo (born 1967 or 1968) is an American lawyer who has served as a judge of the Santa Clara County Superior Court since 2019. In 2023, he was nominated to serve as the United States attorney for the Districts of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.
Education
editGogo earnd a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, San Diego in 1991 and a Juris Doctor cum laude, from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 1996 [2]
Career
editFrom 1997 to 1999, Gogo served as an assistant attorney general in the prosecution division of the Guam Attorney General's Office. From 2000 to 2001, he was an associate attorney at Calvo and Clark, LLP in Tamuning, Guam. From 2001 to 2019, he was a deputy district attorney with the Santa Clara County District Attorney's office.[2] On October 25, 2019, Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Gogo to serve as a judge of the Santa Clara County Superior Court. He was nominated to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Hector E. Ramon.[1] He was sworn into office on December 6, 2019.[3]
Nomination as U.S. attorney
editOn October 18, 2023, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Gogo to be the United States attorney for the Districts and Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.[2] He was recommended to the Biden administration by Governor Lou Leon Guerrero.[4]
On October 24, 2023, his nomination was sent to the Senate.[5] On January 3, 2024, his nomination was returned to the president under Rule XXXI, Paragraph 6 of the United States Senate.[6] He was renominated on January 11.[7] His nomination is pending before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
