Jonathan Jordan Medina is an American actor. He is best known for his portrayal of Jay Gonzales as a series regular on the Amazon Freevee comedy Primo.[1][2][3]
He has also appeared on a number of programs including Fear The Walking Dead[4], Our Flag Means Death, Law & Order: SVU, The Terminal List, and had recurring roles on both The Purge and Walker: Independence.
Life and Career
editJonathan Medina was born in New York City.
He booked his first network television role in the spin-off series, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, where he played Antonio Cayetan. This was followed by an appearance on Shameless as Dr. Ruiz, a guest star on the long running procedural, NCIS, where he portrayed Navy Commander Ted Morgan, and his first major recurring role on season 2 of The Purge, where he portrayed Tommy Ortiz, a team member of Ryan Grant (played by Max Martini).
In 2022, Medina was cast as a series regular on Amazon Freevee's comedy, Primo.[5][6][7] Michael Schur (The Office, Parks and Recreation) executive produced the show based loosely on the life of Shea Serrano.
Alan Sepinwall of Rolling Stone[8] magazine said, "The series operates along two tracks that frequently intersect. One is a sweet and charming coming-of-age story...The other is a broad and silly comedy about the antics of the five uncles...Everyone is likely to have one uncle they like best — for me, it was Jay (Jonathan Medina), whose intense seriousness can be deployed to both scold his brothers and to point out the many ways he’s just as bad as them — even as the whole ensemble gels quickly."
He played a small supporting role in the independent feature, I'm Beginning To See The Light, opposite Jack Huston in 2023.
Personal Life
editJonathan currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Jennifer Lee Laks.
