Jordan Merson (born August 12, 1980) is an American personal injury, sexual abuse, and medical malpractice lawyer, recognized for handling high-profile cases in New York and across the United States. Merson is the founder of Merson Law, a law firm that specializes in representing individuals who have suffered catastrophic injuries, with a particular focus on child victims of injury and abuse.
Early Life and Education
Merson graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Communications, magna cum laude, from Boston University. He later attended Fordham Law School, where he was co-captain of the basketball team, leading them to win the division championship at Madison Square Garden.
Career
Merson began his career in personal injury law before founding Merson Law in 2016.4 His practice primarily focuses on cases involving child injury, medical malpractice, and sexual abuse. Known as the “trial lawyer to the stars,” Merson has represented victims in cases involving high-profile individuals, including Jeffrey Epstein, Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, and Larry Nassar.5 His dedication to securing justice for abuse survivors has earned him a national reputation. In recent years, Merson secured the largest personal injury jury verdict in New York County on multiple occasions, including a $28 million verdict for former New York Giants player Michael Cox in a medical malpractice lawsuit.
Notable Cases
Central Park Tree Fall Case In 2017, Merson represented a woman and her three children who were severely injured when a decaying tree fell on them in Central Park. The family sued the City of New York and the Central Park Conservancy, alleging negligence in maintaining the tree. The case concluded with a $5.5 million settlement.
Gloria G. v. City School District of Mount Vernon In 2018, Merson achieved a $28 million verdict against a Westchester County school district for inadequate supervision after a student was raped. The verdict was one of the largest in New York State for cases involving physical and sexual assault.
Waterbury v. N.Y.C. Ballet, Inc. Merson represented Alexandra Waterbury in a lawsuit against the New York City Ballet (NYCB), alleging a toxic culture that allowed male dancers to exploit women. The case attracted significant media attention due to its focus on gender discrimination and harassment within the NYCB.
Jane Doe v. Russell Brand Merson represented a woman in a lawsuit against British comedian Russell Brand, alleging sexual assault on the set of the film Arthur. The case is one of several allegations against Brand and is notable as the first formal legal action in a U.S. court.
Advocacy for Abuse Survivors Merson has taken a prominent role in representing sexual abuse survivors. In New York and Pennsylvania, he has recovered millions of dollars for victims, including participating in the Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program (IRCP) for survivors of abuse by clergy within the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York. Merson has also contributed proceeds from his legal work to organizations supporting abuse survivors, such as his donation to the Survivors Network Against Priest Abuse (SNAP).
Awards and Recognition Merson has been recognized as one of the top personal injury attorneys in New York, frequently achieving some of the largest settlements and jury verdicts in the state. In 2023, he obtained one of New York State’s highest personal injury jury verdicts.
