If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources. This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). Josef Menčík also known as the "Knight of Strakonice",[citation needed] was a Czechoslovakian councilor and adventurer who is most known for confronting German tanks in medieval armor.[1]
He grew up in the Bohemian Forest and was the oldest of four siblings.[1]
In 1911 Menčík bought the 14th-century Dobrš Castle from the House of Schwarzenberg which had burned down and he began renovating it. He started giving historical tours in medieval armor that he purchased in France. Menčík called himself "the Last Knight".[1][2][3][4]
In 1938 amidst the German annexation of the Sudetenland an armored column was crossing the border at Bučina. Menčík confronted them in his armor on horseback and charged at them with a sword and halberd. He stopped them for a moment but he was eventually forced aside.[1][5][6][7][8]
After the war the communist government nationalized his castle.[9]
He died at his son's home at age 87 on November 19, 1945.[1][10]
