KAMISO is a ryokan located in Nishidomari, Kamitsushimamachi, Tsushima, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. Situated on the northern coast of Tsushima Island, the property is currently undergoing renovation following its acquisition by PanStar Group and is scheduled to reopen in 2026 under the name KAMISO.[1]
Overview
[edit]KAMISO is an accommodation facility in Nishidomari, Kamitsushimamachi, Tsushima, Nagasaki Prefecture. Following renovation, the property is planned to include ocean-view and mountain-view guestrooms, dining facilities, a communal bath, a sauna, and other guest amenities.[1] The property was formerly operated as Kokumin Shukusha Kamitsushimaso (国民宿舎上対馬荘), a public lodging facility. It later transitioned to private operation before being acquired by PanStar Group for redevelopment.[2][3]
History
[edit]The property where KAMISO is being developed was originally operated as a Kokumin Shukusha, a type of public lodging facility in Japan. Kokumin Shukusha Kamitsushimaso (国民宿舎上対馬荘) opened in 1980 in northern Tsushima and operated as a tourism and recreational accommodation facility.[4] In April 2010, the property transitioned to private management and began operating under the name 花海荘 (KAMISO).[4] It was later acquired by PanStar Group, which began redevelopment of the property. The renovated facility is scheduled to reopen in 2026 under the name KAMISO.
Location
[edit]KAMISO is located in the Nishidomari area of Kamitsushimamachi in northern Tsushima Island. The area lies along the northern coast of the island and is characterized by beaches and mountainous terrain.[4] The property is located near Hitakatsu Port International Passenger Terminal. Nearby attractions include Mount Gongen, Miuda Beach, Nishidomari Beach, and other coastal sites in northern Tsushima.[1]
Guestrooms and facilities
[edit]According to its official website, the renovated KAMISO is planned to have a total of 30 guestrooms. The guestrooms are expected to be divided into ocean-view and mountain-view categories, with facilities and amenities varying by room type. Planned room types include the SOUKAI Suite, which is expected to feature an ocean view, terrace, and jacuzzi; the mountain-view SUIREI Room, which is planned to include a terrace; and the ASANAGI Room, which is expected to feature a private open-air bath. Other room types are also planned. Some guestrooms are expected to include private open-air baths, terraces, or jacuzzis.[1]
Sea lounge and terrace
[edit]The planned sea lounge and terrace is intended to consist of an indoor lounge and an outdoor terrace overlooking the coast of Tsushima.
Communal bath and sauna
[edit]The renovated property is planned to include a large communal bath made with hinoki (Japanese cypress) and a sauna.
Forest path to the sea
[edit]A walking path is planned to run through the wooded area surrounding the property and toward a nearby beach.
Concierge service

Dining
[edit]KAMISO is planned to include three dining establishments: Genkai (玄海), Unkai (雲海), and Cafe & Bar KAMI 花海. Genkai Genkai is planned to operate by reservation during dinner hours and serve seasonal kaiseki cuisine, including seafood from Tsushima and other local ingredients. Unkai Unkai is planned to serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Planned breakfast options include standard and premium menus. Lunch offerings are expected to include Japanese set meals, sukiyaki set meals, kaisendon seafood rice bowls, and sushi set meals.
Cafe and bar KAMI 花海
[edit]Cafe and bar KAMI 花海 is planned to operate as a cafe and lounge during the daytime, serving coffee, tea, desserts, and other refreshments. In the evening, it is expected to operate primarily as a bar serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Nearby attractions
[edit]KAMISO is located in northern Tsushima Island, where several beaches, mountains, and observation points are located. Nearby sites include Miuda Beach, Nishidomari Beach, Mount Gongen, and several observation points overlooking the northern coast of Tsushima. The property is also located near Hitakatsu Port International Passenger Terminal. From some coastal and elevated viewpoints in northern Tsushima, the Korean Peninsula may be visible under favorable weather conditions.
Transportation
[edit]KAMISO is located approximately 2 km from Hitakatsu Port International Passenger Terminal. Passengers traveling on international ferry routes between Busan and Tsushima can arrive at Hitakatsu Port and continue to the property by car, taxi, bus, or other local transportation. Buses and taxis are available for transportation within Tsushima. In 2026, PanStar Group began operating the MIRACLE LINK PASS, a bus service connecting Hitakatsu and Izuhara with several destinations on Tsushima.
