Kaamil Didi Primary School (KPS) is a government-run primary school in Hulhumalé, Maldives. The school was established on 4 September 2022, and is the first school that was established in phase two of Hulhumalé.[1]

History

edit

Kaamil Didi Primary School is named after the first Minister of Education, Ahmed Kaamil Didi.[2] The school was officially inaugurated by former vice president of the Maldives, Faisal Naseem, on 4 September 2022.[1][2]

The project to build the school was given to SJ Construction Private Limited in March 2021.[3][4] However, difficulties in importing resources required for the construction due to the Russia-Ukraine war led to the school being incomplete by the time the academic year began.[2][5][6] Therefore, the students enrolled in the school were temporarily accommodated at other schools in Hulhumalé until the construction finished.[6]

In October 2022, the first classes at Kaamil Didi Primary School began.[3]

Kaamil Didi Primary School accommodates students from Lower Kindergarten (LKG) to sixth grade.[7] The school currently has 692 students, 47 teachers, and 22 government staff.[8] The school also has 24 classrooms.[1][9]
