On 2 January 2006 about 800 people were protested against the Tata Steel plant, the protestors, largely belonging to the Munda adivasi community were affiliated to Bistapan Virodhi Manch, a group protesting the displacement of adivasi people at Kalinganagar.[1][2] At least 12 protestors, including 3 women and a 12-year-old boy, were reportedly killed in the police firing, a police constable was also killed in the clash.[1][3][4][5]
