Kamthaan(transl. chaos), a 2023 Indian Gujarati comedy drama film.[1][2][3], is co-written and directed by Dhrunad Kamle. The production is under the banner of Harfanmaula Films and is produced by Aayush Patel, Prateek Gupta, Mit Jani, Abhishek Shah, and Pinal Patel. The movie features a talented ensemble cast, including Hitu Kanodia, Darshan Jariwalla, Sanjay Goradia, and Arvind Vaidya. Notably, this film marks Dhrunad Kamle's directorial debut and is an adaptation of Ashwinee Bhatt's well-known novel of the same name.[4] Kamthaan[5] blends comedy and social drama, offering an intriguing cinematic experience for Gujarati film enthusiasts.

Synopsis

A small-time thief makes the robbery of a lifetime when he accidentally breaks into the house of the newly appointed Police Inspector. And so begins this game of cat and mouse with the Police trying to recover the stolen goods to save the face of their department and the community of thieves uniting to save one of theirs. The chaos and confusion that ensues is - KAMTHAAN.[6][7]

Production

The director and co-writer of the film, Dhrunad Kamle, shared that his journey to develop this project began immediately after reading the first chapter of the renowned Gujarati novel, "Kamthaan," penned by the legendary author Ashwinee Bhatt.[9] The film found its production home at Harfanmaula Films, led by Aayush Patel, Abhishek Shah, Mit Jani, and Prateek Gupta. Mehul Surti, who previously collaborated with the team on "Hellaro[10]," returned as the music composer for this film. Co-writing credits for "Kamthaan" go to Abhishek Shah, Jaswant Parmar, Urvish Kothari, and Biren Kothari.

Notably, "Kamthaan" boasts an ensemble cast[11][12] featuring actors who have made their mark in Bollywood, Indian television, Gujarati cinema, and the world of Gujarati theatre.

The film is set in the year 2000 in an imaginary village named Anjanipur. To keep the film fell authentic, it was shot in a village named Vaso, near Nadiad, Gujarat.

Marketing and release

The film was announced and introduced on 6th November 2023[13] and the poster was revealed on 18th December 2023.[14] The teaser of the film was released on 4th January.[15][16] It is said to release on 2nd February 2024.[17][18]
