Karbon Biru International Karbon Biru International is a non-profit organization established in 2021 subsequent to receiving grants from the WWF Netherlands INNO Challenge.[1][2][3][4][5][6]. Headquartered in Indonesia, the organization is committed to its primary campaigns, #BluingtheEarth and #MembirukanIndonesia[7][8][9]. These initiatives are dedicated to protecting marine ecosystems, addressing coastal degradation, alleviating poverty, and mitigating climate change through the implementation of Biological Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) strategies.[5]
Background
editKarbon Biru was founded with a vision to pioneer nature-based solutions for carbon capture and mangrove restoration.[10][2] with a particular emphasis on coastal regions. Through the integration of community engagement, education, and technology, Karbon Biru adopts constructed wetlands to treat brackish pond effluents of aquaculture, thereby recycling essential nutrients like hydrogen, nitrogen, and phosphorus[2] and incorporates coastal communities[11]. Karbon Biru was established with a vision to pioneer nature-based solutions by using Associated Mangrove Aquaculture model for seafood production in Southeast Asia[11][12]
