Keita Terazono (寺園 佳汰, Terazono Keita, born July 4, 2001), known mononymously as Keita (Korean: 케이타; Japanese: ケイタ), is a Japanese rapper, singer and producer based in South Korea. He is best known for being a member of the South Korean boy group Evnne, Ciipher, and being a contestant on K-Pop reality competition shows Boys Planet and YG Treasure Box.
Personal life
editKeita was born on July 4, 2001 in Osaka, Japan. He has 2 younger sisters, named Rena and Rinon.[citation needed]
Career
edit2013–2018: YG Entertainment
editKeita became a trainee at YG Entertainment in 2013, being the first Japanese trainee for the company. In 2018, he participated as a contestant in the survival show YG Treasure Box as a member of J Team.[1] He was eliminated in Episode 9, and therefore was unable to debut in the final group TREASURE. After being eliminated, he left YG Entertainment in 2019 after being a trainee at the company for 6 years.[2]
2018-present: Rain Company, Boys Planet, EVNNE
editIn 2020, Keita joined Rain Company, and was announced as a member of the new boy group Ciipher on December 10, 2020.[3] On March 3, 2021, Keita wrote the track 'Come Over' with Rain, the founder of the company he was to debut in. He, along with upcoming Ciipher members Tag and Won, were featured on the track. The song was released a week before the group's debut.[4]
On March 15, 2021, Ciipher debuted with the extended play I Like You, with Keita also participating in the production of all tracks of the debut mini album.[5] Ciipher has since released two more extended plays, with Blind released on September 28, 2021, and The Code on May 11, 2022.[6][7]
On December 29, 2022, Keita was introduced as a contestant for the Mnet reality competition show Boys Planet. Throughout the show, rap mentor pH-1 gave considerable praise to Keita, including saying that he considered him and his rapping skills to be more than ready to debut.[citation needed] Keita was able to place in the winning Top 9 from the third to sixth voting rounds out of seven total. On April 20, 2023, He was eliminated in the finale, dropping from 6th place to 12th place, thus being unable to debut in the resulting group Zerobaseone. Due to his prolonged placement in the Top 9, fans expressed grief at Keita's elimination after having dropped 6 ranks in the final episode.[8]
On July 5, 2023, 2 months after the finale of Boys Planet, he and mentor pH-1 would release a collaboration single titled 'Metronome'.[9]
On August 3, 2023, it was announced that Keita would be one of seven former Boys Planet contestants that would be debuting in the project group Evnne under Jellyfish Entertainment. They made their debut soon after with the release of their first extended play (EP) Target: Me and lead single 'Trouble' on September 17, 2023. The EP performed well, topping the Circle Album Chart and selling over 200,000 copies the first week of its release in South Korea.[10]
