Foundation and Early Years
editMaison Lachaume was established in 1845 by Jules Lachaume, a visionary florist and member of the Société Royale d’Horticulture de Paris and the Cercle Général d’Horticulture. With its first boutique at 10 rue de la Chaussée d’Antin in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, Lachaume, supplier to the Court of Napoleon III, quickly gained recognition for its timeless, elegant and refined style.
In 1847, Jules Lachaume published the book "Les fleurs naturelles : traité sur l’art de composer les couronnes, les parures, les bouquets etc. de tous genres pour bals et soirées ; suivi du langage des fleurs" (The natural flowers: treatise on the art of composing crowns, adornments, bouquets, etc. of all kinds for balls and parties; followed by the language of flowers), one of the first publications on the subject, highlighting his passion for elevating floristry to a form of art.
Expansion and Recognition
editThe house has won many awards and was recognized with the first prize for floristry at the World’s Fair in 1889 in Paris.
It then relocated to 10 Rue Royale in the 8th arrondissement, where it continued to prosper, attracting a clientele including European royalty, cultural icons and renown fashion designers. Marcel Proust, the famous French writer, frequently visited the boutique to buy a cattleya for his boutonnière.[3] Jules Lachaume also founded a school to teach other florists the unique “Lachaume Techniques”
20th and 21st Centuries
editThroughout the 20th and 21st centuries, Maison Lachaume thrived, and was frequently mentioned in books, films, and plays. In the 1970s, Giuseppina Callegari, an exceptional florist who already owned two flower shops, fulfilled her dream by taking over the reins of Maison Lachaume.[4] Today, Stéphanie Primet and Caroline Cnocquaert, Giuseppina’s granddaughters, continue to lead the house.
Move to Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré
editIn 2012, Lachaume moved to 103 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, beginning a new chapter while maintaining its classic decor and commitment to timeless elegance. Maison Lachaume remains an iconic institution in the world of floristry, illustrating how passion, craftsmanship, and creativity can create a legacy in floral art
Clientele & Famous Clients
editThe Maison has welcomed and continues to attract famous clients such as Karl Lagerfeld, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, Salvador Dalí, Francis Ford Coppola, as well as actors, singers, athletes, and influencers. Lagerfeld once stated: "I can recognize a Lachaume bouquet among hundreds. Their work displays remarkable creativity. One might even say it exudes emotion. These are creations, not just bouquets."
