Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad No. 21 is a preserved SC-4 class 2-8-0 “Consolidation” type steam locomotive, built by ALCO in January 1910 for the Munising, Marquette and Southeastern Railway (MM&SE), originally numbered 39. In 1924, the MM&SE merged into the Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad (LS&I), and No. 39 was renumbered to 21.
In 1963, No. 21 was sold to the Marquette and Huron Mountain (M&HM) tourist railroad, and it was subsequently left in storage in Marquette, Michigan for several decades. In June 2002, a group of people led by Michael Goodell acquired LS&I 21, and they began to restore it to operating condition via various contractors in Wisconsin. As of 2024, No. 21’s rebuild is still ongoing.
