Last Call Trivia is a company that offers trivia entertainment services including live trivia nights, trivia software, private events, and a trivia podcast. Last Call Trivia was founded by Adam Johnston and Drew Turner in 2007.
The company's products and services are designed to provide bars and restaurants with tools to increase revenue by attracting both new and returning customers.
History
editLast Call Trivia was founded in Cincinnati, Ohio by Adam Johnston and Drew Turner in 2007.
The idea to start a trivia company first occurred to Johnston and Turner while they were playing a trivia game at an Applebee's restaurant in Charleston, South Carolina. After returning to their hometown of Cincinnati, they hosted two free trivia games for local bar owners in the summer of 2007 before signing their first customer, Champions Grille. Soon after, they also signed a 10-venue contract with Applebee's Restaurants.[1]
After starting in Cincinnati, Last Call Trivia expanded to other cities around the United States, hosting games at bars and restaurants in Portland, Boise, Cleveland, Columbus, Louisville, and Pittsburgh.
In 2015, Last Call Trivia held the first Ludimentis, a national trivia tournament.[2] The tournament continued to be held annually through 2019.
By 2018, Last Call Trivia was hosting live weekly trivia nights in 240 bars and restaurants nationwide, with approximately $1.5 million in annual revenue.[1]
In 2020, when bars and restaurants around the country were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Last Call Trivia's employees moved out of their corporate office in Newport, Kentucky and the company transitioned to a fully remote workforce.[3]
During the 2020 bar and restaurant closures, Last Call Trivia also developed a trivia app for players to submit their answers when live events returned later that year. The app allowed players to submit their answers without leaving their seats.[3] Future versions of the app added additional functionalities, including on-screen questions, a countdown timer, and scoreboard updates.[4]
Games and services
editLast Call Trivia provides live trivia-style games designed to increase revenue and foot traffic at bars and restaurants.[5] The company's entertainment services are also used for private events and fundraisers.[6][7]
Last Call Trivia offers three different game formats.
Trivia
editA traditional, trivia-style game with a total of 24 questions. A standard game consists of general knowledge questions from a variety of categories. Specific theme games are also available.[8]
Feud
editA game in which teams guess the top answers to survey questions, similar in style to the TV game show, Family Feud.
Music Bingo
editA Bingo-style game that substitutes a series of song clips in place of the calling of numbers in a traditional Bingo game. Participants receive a Bingo card with song titles in each box and mark off the songs as they are played.
Reception
editLast Call Trivia was named to Northern Kentucky Magazine's "Best Workplaces in NKY" list in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023[9].[10][11]
Northern Kentucky Magazine also named Last Call Trivia the "Company Rethinking of the Year" in 2021 for its COVID-19 response.[10]
