Late Stage Live! is a trans-led[1] American late-night talk and satire television program created by Ella Yurman and Reid Pope. The show is broadcast on Brooklyn Public Access and has gained a growing following through viral clips shared on platforms such as Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.[1]

Production

edit

The show is filmed in front of a live studio audience at BRIC Arts Media, with tickets available for free to the public. The production is notable for its DIY approach and the involvement of a mostly volunteer team. Despite the low-budget nature of the show, it has been praised for its writing and the charismatic performance of host Ella Yurman.[2] Musical performances are a regular feature.

Format

edit

Late Stage Live! follows a traditional late-night talk show format, featuring a live audience. The show covers a wide range of current events, often focusing on political issues such as the marijuana legalization, prison abolition,[3] Palestinian liberation,[4] and anti-capitalism. The program incorporates both humor and serious political commentary, reflecting the perspectives and concerns of its young, primarily LGBTQ+ audience.[2]

In addition to its opening monologue and comedic segments, the show features guest interviews, including interactions with sketch characters portrayed by comedians. The October 2024 episode introduced its first interview with an elected official, NYC Councilmember Chi Ossé. The show aims to encourage viewers to engage with local politics.[5]

Distribution

edit

Episodes of Late Stage Live! are available on Brooklyn Public Access and on YouTube. The show's presence on social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok has played a significant role in expanding its audience.[1]
