Lee Prescott is a Bicycle Designer, Bicycle Frame Builder and one of the key pioneers of modern Bike Fitting and is the current president of the International Bike fitting institute (IBFI).

Early Years

He started building bicycle frames at the age of 11 under the tutelage of his father, Anthony Prescott.[1][2]

Education

His education was at Adams Grammar School in Shropshire before going to Coventry University to study Industrial Product design. His end of degree exhibition was sponsored and supported by Raleigh Cycles of Nottingham.[1] Lee has since also completed an International Business Course at the MiL Institute in Sweden.

Career

The end of degree exhibition at Coventry University, consisted of 2 hand built bicycles using a suspension design. This garnered the attention of local bicycle manufacturer, Pashley Cycles Ltd, who hired Lee as their Designer.[3][4]

Lee spent 7 years as a Designer at Pashley, responsible for the TVSeries range of trials mountain bikes and BMX frames as well as a range of bikes for Land Rover[1]. He also managed the Pashley Bicycle team, which included the "Tongue Brothers", World Champion BMX racer, Dylan Clayton and Kye and Toby Forte.[4]

In 2002 Lee Left Pashley and set up Hidden Nation Ltd.[5] This was a bicycle frame and component company. Manufacturing of the designs was carried out in Czech, China and the UK.[6] This company was sold in 2006.

The following year, 2007, Lee created Meteor Works, custom building frames by hand rather than sub contracting the manufacture which has become one of the top custom frame builders in the UK[7].[2][1][8]

In 2010 a Bicycle Studio was created, Called Velo Atelier. The focus was on the fledgling service of Bike Fitting and supplying custom bicycles from Meteor Works, as well as from other bicycle brands. Lee has graduated to become an IBFI certified level 4 fitter, the highest current qualification and now acts as a trainer for new Bike Fitters. He has pioneered his own "Clinical Bike Fitting Protocol" which differed at the time from most branded fit protocols and has become prototypical within the industry.[9][10][11]

Since 2006 He has also acted as a consultant within the Bicycle and Design industries and regularly is asked to offer advice or comment on a variety of issues within the cycling industry.[12][13][14][15][16][17]

Other Works

  • Lee Prescott has been the Vice President of the International Bike Fitting Institute since 2019 until the present (2023) and has helped to write the official global syllabus for Bike Fit education.[18] He recently rose to the position of President in 2024.
  • He is the Editor of the online magazine, International Bike Fitter.[19]
  • Lee has been a member of both the Institute of Engineering Designers and the Chartered Society of Designers.
