In August 2023, before the release of Leo, the third installment to the director Lokesh Kanagaraj's universe, Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), it was reported that the film would have a sequel, as it reportedly needed an extended narration. The second part project would mark as Vijay doing a sequel for the first time.[1][2] Lokesh confirmed the sequel during a college event on 28 December with the working title Leo 2. He further revealed that production for the film would begin after he finishes Kaithi 2, also set in the LCU, and a standalone film with Rajinikanth, titled Coolie.[3][4] On 2 February 2024, Vijay announced he would be shifting to politics full time after completing only two more films but did not name Leo 2, leading to netizens assuming the project was dropped.[5]
