Leslie Siu is a Canadian marketing executive and cannabis entrepreneur. After about fifteen years working in New York City across liquor, tobacco, beauty and fashion, she moved into cannabis. She co-founded Mother & Clone in Denver in 2015, one of the first cannabis brands built around mothers and women. She later joined Canadian cannabis company Feather Co as CMO. Her campaigns there won Clio Cannabis and O'Cannabiz awards.
Early career
[edit]Siu grew up in Ottawa and spent about fifteen years in New York working in liquor, tobacco, beauty and fashion. In 2014 she started making regular trips to Colorado to help care for a sick family member. Colorado had just opened recreational cannabis sales, and on one of those visits someone at a dispensary suggested a cannabis tincture for her migraines. That experience stuck. She moved to Denver and co-founded Mother & Clone in 2015.
Mother & Clone
[edit]Mother & Clone launched in 2015 with Siu as co-founder. The company produced sublingual nanosprays, a microdosing format most people hadn't heard of yet. The sprays absorbed under the tongue in small controlled amounts and effects came on within minutes. Women and mothers were the target market, a group cannabis brands had mostly ignored back then. Siu has said it was postpartum depression that pushed her toward cannabis and eventually the company.[1]
Business Insider covered Siu in two separate pieces.[2][3] The company was also written up in The Atlantic,[4] High Times,[5] Refinery29,[6] when cannabis use among mothers was genuinely controversial.
In 2018 the company signed a licensing deal with 48North Cannabis Corp, a Toronto-listed producer focused on women's health and wellness. 48North would handle Canadian sales and international distribution.[7] That same year she was invited to speak on a food safety panel at the Food Safety Consortium in Schaumburg, Illinois, representing the cannabis industry alongside experts from other regulated sectors.[8]
Mother & Clone was sold to a private operator in 2020.
Feather Co
[edit]Siu's next move was Feather Co, an Ottawa and Toronto-based cannabis company, where she took on the CMO role. In 2022 the company launched the Burner Phone Hotline, an invite-only SMS campaign she built for cannabis retailers. It won a Clio Cannabis Silver in the Digital/Mobile category[9] and took Best Marketing Campaign at the O'Cannabiz Industry Awards in Toronto.[10] Feather picked up a Clio Cannabis Shortlist the same year in the Product/Service Innovation category.[11]
