A moderate risk severe weather event is the second greatest threat level issued by the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) for convective weather events in the United States. On the scale from one to five, a moderate risk is a level four. They are only issued when significant severe weather events are forecast to occur, but not widespread enough to warrant a high risk. many moderate risk areas are precursors to further High Risk upgrades, or preceeding the day before.
