Edwin and Frances are double first cousins because they share both sets of grandparents as they are cousins through both parents. They are cousins through the siblings Claudette and Alfred as well as the siblings Henry and Dorothy. |
This is an incomplete list of notable individuals who have been maritally coupled with a double first cousin.[1]
When two siblings from one family marry two siblings from another family and both couples have children, the offspring of one marriage is double first cousin of the offspring of the other marriage. This results in double first cousins sharing both sets of grandparents.
Marriage between double first cousins is a rare occasion, being predominantly found within royalty. The possible offspring of these marriages has an inbreeding coefficient of at least 12.5% - the same as the offspring of uncle-niece / aunt-nephew and half brother-half sister relationships.
