A retirement phase will bring the fleet to 600 M113.[57][58] The Dragon VCR will partially replace it. An additional program was launched in 2023 to replace it with a new tracked vehicle, the VAC. It is based on the ASCOD 2 platform, more specifically the Castor AEV (engineering variant). The VAC might be produced from 2024. It will probably use the systems installed on the Dragon VCR.[59]
