George Pollard | Hospitalized May 5, 2005
Died June 21, 2005 |
January 2015 | A middle aged man was found unresponsive on the street near a homeless shelter in Los Angeles, after suffering a serious head injury. It is not known how the man was wounded or if it was intentional. The man was hospitalized, but died from his injuries 2 months later. Papers found on the man when he was first discovered indicated that he may have been George Pollard, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, but this could not be confirmed. In January 2015, family members of Pollard viewing a Pennsylvania missing persons' website were able to confirm the identification.[3]

The woman had likely been dead for less than 24 hours before her discovery, and her cause of death was ruled as an accidental death caused by hypothermia.[7] In 2012, a post-mortem photograph of the woman was used in a presentation at NamUs's training academy, when a member of the audience recognized her as Angie Toler, 21, of Smithfield, North Carolina. DNA samples collected from relatives confirmed the identification. Tempe Girl | N/A | Discovered April 27, 2002 | Unidentified | The body of a teenaged girl was found behind a strip mall in Tempe, Arizona. The girl had died the day prior of a cocaine overdose. Fingerprints on the girl's belongings were traced to a male vehicle owner who had picked the girl up as a hitchhiker the day prior in Phoenix. The girl asked the driver to take her to Tempe, where she wanted to buy concert tickets. Once at Tempe, however, she changed her mind, and asked to be taken to a different location. Another male got into the back seat with the girl, and sold her cocaine. The girl stated that she had gotten kicked out of her house for her drug usage. Upon snorting the cocaine, the girl began to have seizures. The driver left both of his passengers behind a strip mall and told the drug dealer to call 9-1-1 from a nearby gas station, however her body was not found until the next morning. Robin Ann Green
"Miss Molly" |
Discovered January 25, 1986 | Augst, 2020 | The body of a woman was found in a creek below a bridge of Interstate 70 in Salina, Kansas. The woman had been severely beaten and then thrown off the bridge, where she then drowned in the creek. The victim had been dead for approximately a day before being discovered. The victim did not appear to be transient, as she was very well groomed, and most of her clothing was expensive or high-quality. She also did not appear to be local, as several articles of her clothing were only sold in cities on the coasts. The unidentified woman was nicknamed "Miss Molly" by investigators.[33] The remains were exhumed by Interpol in July 2019 to have DNA tested against a suspected match missing from Belgium. The DNA did not match, but a hit returned from a DNA database in Minnesota. Miss Molly was conclusively identified as Robin Green, missing from Los Angeles. Robin had last been seen on December 28, 1985 with her second husband, Micheal Green, while traveling to Minnesota to visit Robin's ex-husband and 4 children. Micheal Green, who was involved in a drug case at the time of Robin's disappearance, has not been ruled out as a suspect. Micheal Green died in 2007.[34] | Murder of Robin Green[34]

Andrea Kuiper
"Andrea Doe" |
April 1, 1990 | May 4, 2017 | A young woman attempting to cross Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach, California, was struck by two separate cars and was pronounced dead on the scene. Several witnesses had encountered her in the area shortly before her death, but all confirmed that the decedent was a hitchhiker with no permanent connection to Orange County. Information from witnesses was pieced together that stated the decedent had introduced herself as "Andrea", and had said that she was originally from the East Coast. The decedent had told some witnesses that she was from New York, and others that she was from Virginia. The decedent claimed to be 25 or 26 years old, though she appeared as young as 16. The decedent claimed that she was adopted and was traveling to find her biological family, and claimed that they were prominent but would not elaborate on who they were.[38] In early 2017, the decedent's fingerprints were uploaded to an FBI-managed project that worked to create a more extensive and dynamic database of UID fingerprints. A match from that database confirmed Andrea Doe as Andrea Kuiper, 26, of Fairfax, Virginia.[39] | Death of Andrea Kuiper[39]

The woman had been dead for approximately 2 months prior to discovery, and decay prevented identification, as well as determination of the cause of death. However, the death is still being investigated as suspicious, as the body was found in an area notorious for the trafficking of women.[41]

Annie Lehman
"Annie Doe" |
[3] | Discovered August 19, 1971 | March 12, 2019 | A traveling father and son stopped to spend the night along Redwood Highway in Josephine County, Oregon, discovered the completely skeletal remains of a girl between 14 to 25 years old. The girl had been dead for several months. The body was in an area described as a dump and was partially covered with debris, so homicide was suspected even though the cause of death could not be determined. A map of campsites in Northern California was found in one of her pockets.[55] The nickname "Annie Doe" came from forensic artist Joyce Nagy, who did a clay reconstruction of the victim's face, and claimed that the features she was depicting felt like an Annie. In late 2018, DNA from Annie Doe was submitted to the DNA Doe Project.[56] The DDP noted that Annie Doe's case was of unusual difficulty. Annie's DNA was highly degraded, requiring several rounds of extraction and sequencing. Even once suitably collected, many of Annie's closest matches were from outside of the United States, making it difficult to search genealogy records.[55] In March of 2019, Annie Doe was positively identified as 16 year old Anne "Annie" Marie Lehman, who went missing from Aberdeen, Washington in early 1971 under suspicious and unknown circumstances.[56] | Death of Anne Lehman[56]

"Los Angeles Jane Doe (September 1968)" | N/A | Discovered September 30, 1968 | Unidentified | An unresponsive woman was discovered on a September morning in an alley behind a residence in Los Angeles. The woman had likely died somewhere else and been transported to the scene. The most likely cause of death was a drug overdose. The decedent had been seen alive in the area previously, but nobody interviewed was able to identify her.[57]
"Palm Desert Jane Doe (1980)" | N/A | Discovered February 16, 1980 | Unidentified | A 20 to 25-year-old woman's body was discovered at the bottom of a 35 foot (approximately 10.6 meters) deep ravine near a highway turnout on a mountainous stretch of Highway 74 in Palm Desert, California. The woman was fully clothed and well-groomed, and her clothes were noted as being of high quality. The decedent had been dead for approximately 1 to 2 days before being found. Her death is being investigated as a homicide, though details were not disclosed.[58]

"Cave Woman" | N/A | Discovered September 27, 1986 | Unidentified | A 25 to 30-year-old woman's mummified remains were found in an abandoned mine tunnel in an open desert area on the outskirts of Las Vegas.[59] The cave had been partitioned off with spare wood to form a crude living area, and it appeared the woman had been living there for some time.[60] The woman was found lying nude under a blanket, but clothing was found in the area, as well as a few other everyday personal items, such as lip gloss and a bottle of mouthwash. The mummified remains had been there for approximately 2 to 4 weeks and were not in a recognizable state. The woman had multiple stress ulcers in her stomach, but no traumatic injuries, and a toxicology test reported negative for drugs and alcohol in her system. Her cause of death could not be determined. | Cave Woman (decedent)

"Davidson County Sherry Doe" | N/A | March 24, 1976 | Unidentified | The body of a Hispanic or Native American teenaged girl was found floating in the Harpeth River near a bridge in Davidson County, Tennessee, near the Cheatham County border. The girl had been dead for less than a day prior to discovery and had been sighted hitchhiking by witnesses, who said her name may have been "Sherry". Sherry Doe's cause of death was determined to be drowning and may have been accidental, but there were abrasions on her body that could not be disproven as resulting from being forcibly held underwater. Sherry had had sexual intercourse within a few days of her death, though it was similarly impossible to determine whether or not it was assault. The girl's body was recovered without a shirt over her bra, though a blouse that may have been hers was recovered from the river the same day. A photo found in Sherry's back pocket showing a little blond boy had the name "Little Charlie" and a phone number written on it. The phone number led to a man who was not the boy in the photograph but did go by the name Little Charlie. Little Charlie said that he and his brother-in-law had picked Sherry and a blonde friend of hers up hitchhiking in Nashville 10 days prior. Sherry and an unidentified blonde teenage girl were traveling together, allegedly heading to Haines City, Florida to visit the blonde girl's husband. Sherry said that the two girls had run away from a mental treatment facility in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where Sherry was being treated for alcoholism, while the blonde girl was admitted for being suicidal, supported by visible self-harm scars on her wrists.[63] The photo found on Sherry was allegedly of the blonde girl's son. The blonde girl was never located by investigators, and neither were hospital records surrounding female mental patients escaping in the Saint Paul area in 1976. Forensic DNA analysis is also hindered by poor record keeping in the Potter's field where Sherry was buried, complicating exhumation of her body.[64] | Davidson County Sherry Doe[64]

"Penny Doe" | N/A | Discovered July 22, 1990 | Unidentified | The significantly decomposed body of a woman was found by 2 teenaged berry-pickers in a creek bed near Road 535 in a remote area of Monroe Township, Clarion County, Pennsylvania. The woman had been dead for approximately 2 months, and the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the skull. The victim was found 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) south of Interstate 80, and the road nearest to the site of the body is not a heavily trafficked road. She received the nickname "Penny Doe" after the only personal items found were a penny in each pocket of her jeans. It is unknown why these were the only items left on her person. Investigators do not believe Penny Doe was local to Clarion County, but they do believe her killer was familiar with the area. They also believe that there are individuals in the County who may have information that can help identify her or her killer.[65] | Clarion County Penny Doe
"Hacienda Heights John Doe" | N/A | November 5, 1972 | Unidentified | The body of a young man was found at 9:53 AM in a ravine next to Athel Drive in Hacienda Heights, Los Angeles County, California. The young man was fully clothed and had died less than 24 hours prior. The man had been killed by multiple gunshots. Another resident of Hacienda Heights reported hearing gunshots and screaming around 2:00 AM. A body was also reported 20 feet down the roadway around the same time, as well as a large volume of blood in the street.[66] | Hacienda Heights John Doe

"Becky Doe" "Kern County Jane Doe" |
[] | July 15, 1980 | April 23, 2021 | The body of a Hispanic or Native American woman was found sexually assaulted and stabbed to death in an almond orchard in Delano, California. The victim had been dead for approximately a day prior to discovery. The woman had 2 distinctive and well-inked tattoos, one on each arm. In 2015, DNA extracted from scrapings under her fingernails was used to convict Wilson Chouest of her murder.[67] Chouest may have picked her up at the now-defunct bar Ruby's in Lemoore, California, and she may have gone by the name "Becky Ochoa". In July 2018, the DNA Doe Project was brought on to help identify the woman. Though the woman's DNA was highly degraded, a year later the DDP was able to upload a genetic profile to GEDmatch. The case was further complicated when it was revealed that the woman was a First Nations Canadian, a demographic both underrepresented in genetic databases and more likely to have oral family histories than written ones. In April 2021, the victim was formally identified as Shirley Ann Soosay, a Cree woman from Alberta.[68] Soosay had left her home on the Maskwacis Cree reservation in her 20s to work in Edmonton, then later settled in Vancouver. Soosay was last heard from in 1979. Her family continued to search for her until they came across a post by the DDP looking for information about missing Cree women.[69] | Murder of Shirley Soosay[69]

"Beth Doe" |
[] | [] | Discovered December 20, 1976 | March, 2021 | The dismembered remains of a heavily pregnant young woman between age 15 to 25 years old were discovered in three separate suitcases along the Lehigh River in Pennsylvania, having been thrown off a bridge of Interstate 80. The victim had been strangled and shot, then dismembered. Also found in the suitcase was the full-term remains of her unborn daughter. It was hypothesized that the victim had immigrated from Europe at a young age[70]. In late 2020, Pennsylvania state police sent extracted DNA to Othram, and in March 2021 it was announced that Beth Doe had been identified as 15 year old Puerto Rican native Evelyn Colon via a close DNA match with her nephew. Luis Sierra, her boyfriend at the time and the father of her child, was arrested for her murder.[71] | Murder of Evelyn Colon |
"Spokane John Doe (2007)" | N/A | Discovered June 27, 2007 | Unidentified | A passerby saw a partially skeletonized body just below the surface of the Spokane River just East of the Washington Street Bridge.[72] The remains had been in there for an approximate of between 2 and 10 months, and were no longer recognizable.[73] Investigators determined that the individual was likely mixed race of both African American and most likely White, and that he was likely between 30 and 55 years old. Healed damages to the jaw, nose, and left orbital ridge indicate that prior and separate to the events of his death, the man likely sustained a traumatic face injury that would have left noticeable deformities.

The hitchhiker may have been from New Haven and may have been traveling to California. The pair stopped for breakfast near Benton, Arkansas. While on the road again, the owner of the car became tired and let the hitchhiker drive. The owner of the car reports that when he next awoke, the vehicle was filling with water. The owner of the car managed to get out of the car, but the decedent did not and was fully submerged for between 15 and 30 minutes before he was extracted. The decedent was then taken to a hospital, where he died 2 days later.[74] | Malvern John Doe

The girl had been beaten to death, and her face was bludgeoned beyond recognition.[86] Investigators nicknamed the victim "Princess Doe", which appeared on her headstone in the same cemetery where she was found. In 2022, genetic testing identified Princess Doe as Dawn Olanick, of West Babylon, New York. Olanick was 17 years old when she disappeared. "Hillsborough Jane Doe" | N/A | Discovered September 19, 1990 | Unidentified | The decomposing body of a teenager or young woman were found on an embankment of Interstate 40 in Hillsborough, North Carolina, by a highway clean-up crew. The victim had been dead for 3 to 6 days prior to discovery, and decomposition prevented facial identification or fingerprinting. However, the cause of death was determined to be strangulation, and dentals were taken. It was noted that her wisdom teeth had not erupted. A woman matching her description had been sighted walking along Interstate 85 near N.C. 62, as well as at a truck stop in Alamance County. The victim's sweatshirt bore a unique design, but was unable to be traced. No shoes were recovered, however the victim's socks were relatively clean, suggesting that her shoes had been taken as a trophy by her killer. A possible connection was observed between the victim's murder and the murders of several other women committed by a taxi driver whose name was never publicly released. The taxi driver was arrested for similar murders mere months after Hillsborough Jane Doe was found, but the taxi driver declined an interview with Orange County police officers and later committed suicide.[95] | Hillsborough Jane Doe 1990

"Millie Doe" | N/A | Torso discovered June 20, 1984
Skull recovered April 19, 1998 |
Unidentified | The nude, dismembered remains of a woman were found on the banks of the Spokane River, approximately a mile west of the T.J. Meenach bridge. The woman's hands had been removed at the wrists and her legs had been removed at the calves. The woman's head had also been removed. The remains had not been significantly decayed, but the lack of prints and dentals prevented identification. A severed hand was recovered in July 1984 that was thought to belong to the woman found in June, but this was disproven through MtDNA testing. 14 years later, a skull was recovered on a vacant lot that was confirmed to belong to the victim[97]. The victim received the name "Millie Doe" shortly after the retrieval of her skull. The detective assigned to the case, Don Geise, was transporting the skull to a lab in Western Washington to undergo forensic testing, accompanied by his fifth grade daughter. While staying in a motel, Geise's daughter said, "Since we have another person in the room, we should name her. Let’s call her ‘ Millie '.”[98] | Spokane Millie Doe

The victim carried no identification and was not recognized by anyone in the area, suggesting she was a transient, even though several articles of her clothing were fairly expensive. High dosages of prescription drugs were found in her system, though there was no evidence that the victim was a habitual user. The victim's cause of death was determined to be a forced overdose followed by strangulation. The victim had been seen earlier arguing with a man who was never identified.[100] | Daly City Jane Doe 1987
Tamara Tigard
"Lime Lady" |
[] | Discovered April 18, 1980 | January 30, 2020 | The nude body of a woman was found on a bank of the North Canadian River near Jones, Oklahoma. The woman's body had been completely doused in quicklime, presumably with the intentions to speed up decomposition. However, the type of quicklime used was incorrect and instead worked to preserve the body. This led to the nickname "Lime Lady". The woman's body showed decay comparable to 10 days PMI, but may have been there for as long as several months. The woman's cause of death was homicide by gunshot, and though she was nude at the time of her discovery, a dime had been lodged in her body by one of the bullets fired, and clothing fibers found stuck to the dime indicate the victim was wearing clothes at the time of her murder.[101] in 2018, the DNA Doe Project took on the case. In 2020, Lime Lady was formally announced as Tamara Tigard, a former soldier missing from Las Vegas.[102] | Murder of Tamara Tigard

The woman had been beaten and then strangled with pantyhose. The victim was fully clothed, but no shoes were recovered. The victim may have gone by either "Jubel" or "Julie", as one of those names was written on the insider of her bra. Analysis of lead and strontium levels in her body indicated she had only lived in Missouri for a few years. In April 2018, the DNA Doe Project began to exist on the case. In May 2021, exactly 40 years since the date of her death, the victim's identity was announced as Karen Knippers. | Murder of Karen Knippers

The victim had been shot once in the back of the head, and her head was covered by a green plastic bag and a distinctive red, white and black sweater. The victim had been dead for approximately a day prior to discovery. She had been adopted.
"Julie Doe" | N/A | Discovered September 25, 1988 | Unidentified | The mummified remains of a 22 to 35-year-old woman were found in a concealed, off-path wooded area of Clermont, Florida. Having been dead for up to 8 months prior to her discovery, the remains were not in recognizable condition. The victim's skirt had been pulled down, suggesting sexual assault. The initial autopsy had incorrectly stated that the victim was a cisgender woman who had given birth before, but a redone autopsy in 2015 revealing an XY chromosome rectified that the victim was a transgender woman who'd undergone sex reassignment therapy, rare for the time. The hormonal changes in her bones previously attributed to pregnancy were later realized to be due to hormone replacement therapy. After two unsuccessful attempts at DNA extraction, The DNA Doe Project was able to extract usable DNA from a third attempt and is undergoing genealogical testing. | Julie Doe |
