Submission declined on 23 July 2024 by SafariScribe (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia. Declined by SafariScribe 3 months ago. |

Studies
editLorenzo studied in Rome where he obtained the “Giulio Cesare” State Gymnasium High School diploma with highest honors.
He then graduated in Electronic Engineering with honors from Sapienza University of Rome with a thesis on Radar data processing for Satellite Imaging.
He performed Military service as a Navy officer in Livorno, Italy, at the Institute for Electronics and Telecommunications Mariteleradar, from September 1990 to December 1991, resulting first in the outgoing class.
In 2008, he obtained a Master's degree from Imperial College London.
Professional activities
editLorenzo began his career in 1992 in Alenia (former Finmeccanica Group), becoming then Alenia Marconi Systems (a joint venture between Finmeccanica and BAE Systems). Until 2002, he worked as a Radar Systems Analyst, Designer, and Integrator of Multifunctional Naval Radar and then as Sales Director for the Terrestrial Systems Division, first for the South America region and then for the Europe/NATO area.
In 2002, he was appointed Head of Product Strategy in MBDA (a joint venture in the missile sector between Finmeccanica, BAE Systems, and Airbus), a position he held until 2006 when he moved to SELEX Sistemi Integrati (former Finmeccanica Group) of which he became Deputy General Manager (from July 2010 to November 2011) and then General Manager (from December 2011 to December 2012).
From January 2013 to December 2015, he was Head of the Terrestrial and Naval Defense Electronics Division of Selex ES[2] (the new company for defense electronics into which the former Finmeccanica Group companies Selex Sistemi Integrati, Selex Galileo, and Selex Elsag merged), until Selex ES merged within Leonardo (the new name of Finmeccanica as of 2016).
In January 2016[3], Mariani held several positions of increasing importance within the Leonardo Group. He was head of the Land and Naval Defense Electronics Division from January 2016 to September 2017, before becoming, in October 2017, Commercial Director and, subsequently, in May 2018, also CEO of Leonardo International[4]. This company brought together the Leonardo Group's international holdings. In this position he strengthened ties with foreign markets, particularly the Middle East[5] and Bahrein[6] ones. He held those positions until 2020 when he rejoined the MBDA Group[7]
From September 2020 to May 2023[8], he served as Executive Group Director of Sales & Business Development of MBDA and CEO of MBDA Italia SpA[9]. Under this positions he conducted key defence activities, particularly in the R&D field. Both the group as a whole[10] and the Italian subsidiary[11] had considerably positive financial results during Mariani's term.
On June 1, 2023, he rejoined Leonardo - under the guidance of Roberto Cingolani[12] - to assume the position of Co-General Manager[13], with responsibilities for the General Management Business & Operations Organizational Unit[14]. Also since June 2023, he has been the Operational Chairman of MBDA Italia Spa and Chairman of the Board of Directors. In addition, he is Vice-Chairman of the MBDA Group and a director as a representative of Leonardo.
He participated in the crossing of the Strait of Messina together with fifteen athletes of the GSPD, Gruppo Sportivo Paralimpico della Difesa, who swam across a 3,800-meter stretch of sea for the second consecutive year.
