Luca Piccioli (born May 11, 1999) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays for Canadian Premier League club Atlético Ottawa.

Early life

edit

Piccioli was born in Barrhaven, a suburb of Ottawa.[1] At 13, he moved to Montréal and joined the CF Montréal Academy.[2] He later played with Ottawa Gloucester Hornets Celtic.[3]

University career

edit

In July 2021, he committed to attend Carleton University to play for the men's soccer team.[4] In 2022, he was named an OUA East First Team All-Star.[5] In 2023, he was twice named the school's Athlete of the Week.[6][7] He helped the side win the 2023 OUA title, scoring a brace in a 3-1 victory over the York Lions in the final, which also earned him OUA Athlete of the Week honours.[8][9] At the end of the 2023 season, he was named Carleton's Male Athlete of the Year[10][11] and was named an OUA East First Team All-Star.[12]

Club career

edit

At the 2024 CPL-U Sports Draft, Piccioli was selected in the first round (3rd overall) by Atlético Ottawa.[13][3] In April 2024, he signed a U Sports contract with the club.[14][15] In July 2024, the club released him to allow him to play for their affiliate club Ottawa South United in Ligue1 Québec,[16] before re-signing him in August back with the CPL club.[17]
