Submission declined on 1 August 2024 by 331dot (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.

- Comment: Does not seem to meet WP:NARTIST. The awards listed are meaningless in terms of notability, as they themselves do not have articles. (Like Nobel Peace Prize) 331dot (talk) 18:55, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

Lucas Garcete (born January 12, 2000) is a Spanish poet and visual artist born in Paraguay. His visual work is associated with the Dark Art movement and is known for its use of backlighting and exploration of themes such as death, love, terror, and transcendence.
Poetry
editGarcete was a finalist in the XXXIV Loewe Poetry Prize.[1] and in the VIII Jovellanos International Poetry Prize[2]. Some of his poems have been translated into Russian by poet Dmitry Kuzmin for the magazine флаги (flagi.media)[3].
Visual Work
editStyle
editGarcete's visual work, associated with the Dark Art movement, uses black and white photography with pronounced contrasts and minimal light sources. His images often incorporate symbolic elements and are noted for their exploration of themes such as melancholy and night.
He overlays fabricated figures, such as plague doctors and mythical creatures, onto photographs of people. This technique is influenced by the work of filmmaker Lotte Reiniger, using space to create visually engaging narratives.
Themes
editGarcete’s work is influenced by Greek mythology and Romantic literature. His series Hymns to the night explores themes related to the night and its symbolism. His portrayal of death in his work aims to address the concept's mysterious and often enigmatic aspects.
Awards
editGarcete has received recognition in photography competitions, including the Black & White Series of the Year award at the Monovisions Awards in 2024 for his series "Hymns to the night"[4] and the Color Awards 2023 from Dodho Magazine for his photograph "Epitaph for the Moon"[5]
