Luke van Wyk (born October 14, 2010), known professionally as "104", is a South African-born rapper. Regarded as an up-and-coming artist in the hip-hop scene, he started his musical journey at a very young age, showcasing his talent as early as five years old. His style and artistry are heavily influenced by iconic rappers such as MF Doom, Kendrick Lamar, and J. Cole.
Born in Springs, South Africa, "104" spent the first 10 years of his life in a challenging environment. His parents worked tirelessly, saving for nine years to provide a better life for their family. In 2020, the family finally relocated to New Zealand, initially settling in Massey, New Zealand, where they lived for three years before moving to Rolleston, New Zealand, where "104" currently resides.
At the age of nine, 104 recorded and released his first song, marking the beginning of his musical career. Although his early work is no longer available on YouTube, he continued to release music, dropping four more tracks before the age of 10. On the same day he boarded the plane to New Zealand, "104" released his debut EP, titled "hi." The project, however, only garnered a total of 200 combined plays. Despite this initial setback, the EP was later reuploaded to YouTube three and a half years after its original release.
104's music serves as an expression of his experiences, challenges, and inspirations, and he continues to develop his sound as he grows both as an artist and an individual.
