Dr. Mahesh Gupta (born 24 Sept 1954) a first generation entrepreneur, is known for revolutionizing the water purification industry in India. He is the Founder-Chairman of Kent RO Systems Ltd, which is an Indian healthcare products company headquartered in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. It makes water purifiers based on the process of reverse osmosis purification. Besides water purifiers, the company also makes vacuum cleaners, air purifiers, vegetable and fruit purifiers, water softeners as well as kitchen appliances[1]. The company exports to SAARC countries, Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe.
He is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur[2] and Indian Institute of Petroleum. He completed his mechanical engineering degree from IIT Kanpur in 1975. He later graduated from the Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) in Dehradun with a master's in engineering. In recognition of his contribution to the water purification industry, he is known as the PURE WATER MAN[3] of India. Dr. Gupta has also been conferred upon by an Honorary Doctorate degree[4] by Sri Sri University Orissa, for his contribution in providing safe and healthy drinking water in Rural and Urban areas.
Education and Early Career
editDr. Gupta completed his mechanical engineering degree from IIT Kanpur in 1975. He later graduated from the Indian Institute of Petroleum (IIP) in Dehradun with a master's in engineering. After his graduation, in 1977, Dr Mahesh Gupta started working for Indian Oil Corporation [5] and worked there till 1988. In 1988 he bid goodbye to the oil sector giant and with a minimal seed capital at his disposal, ventured into the business of manufacturing instruments for oil testing and checking its pilferage. He went commercial under the brand name KENT OIL METERS[6] which went on to be a successful business. Mahesh Gupta received an honorary doctorate at the 2nd Convocation of Sri Sri University Orissa[7]. Dr. Gupta was conferred with the PHD Degree (Honoris Causa) by Hon; ble Chief Minister of Orissa Shri Naveen Patnaik in the presence of Sri Ravi Shankar for his work in the field of water purification for urban as well as rural population.
