Mary Free Bed at Covenant HealthCare is a comprehensive rehabilitation hospital located in Saginaw, Michigan, formed through a partnership between Covenant HealthCare and Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation.
This facility offers a wide range of inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services designed to help patients with various conditions and injuries.
History and Collaboration
editIn 1891, a group of pioneering women in Grand Rapids, Michigan, had a vision to help kids get the health care they needed. They started with a little black purse and a simple ask: Would anyone named ‘Mary’ donate 10 cents? Mary’s, and people who knew Mary’s, donated their spare change. Enough money was raised to fund a bed at a local hospital. They called it the “Mary Free Bed.”
Mary Free Bed has grown from a single free bed to a leader in rehabilitative care.
Mary Free Bed and Covenant HealthCare combined their expertise to establish Mary Free Bed at Covenant HealthCare, aiming to provide advanced rehabilitation services to the Great Lakes Bay Region. The collaboration leverages the strengths of both organizations to offer specialized care and state-of-the-art rehabilitation technology. The partnership became operational in 2018, later investing in the Saginaw community with a new $40.7M building in 2021.
