Masonry screws are designed to hold in masonry (that is, stone, concrete, brick, cinderblock, etc.; materials with high compressive strength and very low tensile strength). They are often but not always used with wall plugs. They are usually blunt-tipped; they must be installed in holes pre-drilled with a suitable masonry drill bit and, usually, a hammer drill. They generally have a coarse thread, and the shank does not taper.
