Plot
editA private investigator manipulates a grieving mother to save his dying business and stumbles upon a pattern of murders.
The film is inspired by Boston cases in the smiley face murder theory.

editThe film started principal photography in the first week of March 2020. Production was forced to be halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Principal photography resumed in November 2021 and finished in January 2022. Additional scenes were shot during December 2022 and December 2023 in New York, Massachusetts, and Seoul, South Korea.[citation needed]
Casting
editThe primary cast of Jay Karales, Hans Lam Barboza, Jacob A. Miller, Kenney Dorcely, Thomas Speed, and Jerry Jensen - collectively known as the comedy troupe Headshot, LLC., was announced to headline the feature in early 2020.
In July 2020 journalist and Popular Front creator Jake Hanrahan was cast as conspiracy theorist podcaster John Doyle.
Eric Roberts (Star 80, The Dark Knight) was initially cast as the film's antagonist, but was later dropped by director Karales and producers Jerry Jensen, Hans Lam Barboza, and Jacob A. Miller.
In January 2022 Buddy Duress (Good Time, PVT Chat) was announced to have signed on to play dual characters in the film. Buddy Duress would pass away in November 2023, with his death being announced by Karales and brother Christopher Stathis in February 2024.[2] Mass State Lottery is his final film.
Release
editMass State Lottery will be released in 2024. The first theatrical trailer was released on YouTube May 6, 2021.[3] The second theatrical trailer was released August 17, 2022 on the Forgotten Genres website. The third and final trailer was released on YouTube and Instagram on May 9, 2024[4].
