Maxwell Hall is a music venue at the University of Salford. Originally known as the Main Hall, It was officially opened alongside the Main Building on 21 May 1961 to house what was then called the Royal College of Advanced Technology. The buildings were opened by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh, with the latter serving as the first University Chancellor 1967–1991. The construction was jointly funded by Lancashire County Council and Salford City Council, with an estimated cost of more than £1.5 million.
