Middlephobia is discrimination and disgust against middle aged people.
The bashing of Kei Mitaji lumping together the attribute of "old man" is essentially nothing more than discrimination, but it is rarely reflected. Writing what we think of as "evil" in relation to "old men" is not only accused of sexism or ageism, but also receives a great deal of praise and sympathy. There is an implicit agreement that "discrimination against old men is not discrimination." He stated.[1]
Hikikomori
editIn Japan, the Cabinet Office conducted a survey on living conditions among middle-aged and elderly people aged 40~64 in 2018, and it was estimated that there were 613,000 people nationwide who were in a state of hikikomori. This is higher than the 541,000 people surveyed by 15~39-year-olds conducted in FY2015. In addition, the male-to-female ratio is overwhelmingly 76.6%.[2] This is due to the fact that it is difficult for middle-aged and elderly people to find a new job when they lose their jobs, and that men who have lost their jobs and become unemployed are reluctant to go out due to the pain of being exposed to the harsh eyes of the world, which eventually causes anxiety and withdrawal in many cases.[3]
Suicide rate
editFrom 1998 to 2012, when the number of suicides per year exceeded 30,000 due to the recession and restructuring, the suicide rate surged, especially among middle-aged and elderly men.[4](See suicide in Japan)
