Mitchell Hope (born June 27, 1994), is an Australian actor and model. Hope is best known for his role as Ben in the Disney Channel musical film franchise, Descendants.
Early life
editHope was born in Melbourne, Australia to James Hope and Lisa Ruggiero. He has two younger brothers, Toby and Jonah.[1]
Career
editHope began his career with small roles on Australian TV shows and short films.
Hope had decided to quit acting and go back to university when his agent requested that he complete one last audition; Hope agreed. After successfully completing the audition and callback, Hope flew out to LA.[2] In December 2013, it was reported that Hope was cast in Kenny Ortega's upcoming Disney Channel live-action TV movie, Descendants, alongside Dove Cameron. Hope was set to portray Ben, the teenage son of Belle and the Beast.[3] On July 31, 2015, Descendants premiered on Disney Channel.[4]
In 2015, it was confirmed that Hope would return as Ben in Descendants 2, the sequel to Descendants.[5] Descendants 2 premiered on Disney Channel on July 21, 2017.[6]
In 2018, Disney announced that Hope would return in a third instalment of Descendants.[7] On August 2, 2019, Descendants 3 premiered on Disney Channel.[8]
In January 2019, it was announced that Hope was set to star in the upcoming Netflix Christmas romantic comedy film, Let It Snow.[9] The film was released on November 8, 2019.[10]
In 2021, Hope reprised his role as Ben in the animated special, Descendants: The Royal Wedding.[11]
Interested in re-entering the Australian film industry, Hope starred in the Australian romantic comedy, Love You Like That, which was released in Australian theatres on October 21, 2021.[12]
In 2022, Hope starred in the film Don't Make Me Go, which was released on Amazon Prime Video on July 15, 2022.[13]
