The pattern was first seen in 1953 during a series of camouflage testing exercises in Panama.[2] The pattern was well received during the exercises, leading to it's issue as a helmet cover.[3] The pattern would eventualy become associated with the Vietnam War due to the heavy use of helmet covers with the pattern.

Because of it's popularity, The pattern was printed on numerous commercial items. Some of which were purchased by soldiers and used in the war.
