History
editBefore NADMA’s formation, disaster management in Malaysia followed the National Security Council (NSC) Directive No. 20, which outlined the roles of different agencies in disaster scenarios. However, the need for a dedicated agency became more apparent as Malaysia faced increasingly complex and large-scale disasters, such as Malaysia's Flooding 2014-2015. This disaster caused huge losses in few states including Kelantan and Terengganu. On 14th March 2015, the then-Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had announced that the government planned to establish an agency which focused on natural disaster management and were the bill were passed on 26 August 2015[2]. NADMA formally take over the coordinating task from NSC on 1st October 2015.

Controversy
editThe former minister, Ahmad Shabery Cheek questioned the remarks that said NADMA were not involved in disaster management. This follows after a statement from the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Special Duties), Abdul Latiff said that NADMA only responsible for providing the compensations to the victims and not involved in disaster management.[3]
