Draft:National Institute for the Psychotherapies

  • Comment: An article about an organisation needs multiple (aim for at least three) published sources that meet all four criteria listed above. The sources currently present do not seem to meet these. Sources that meet these criteria will have to be added before this article can be accepted.
My reasons for feeling that the current sources are insufficient are:
#1 is a job search website and would not be classified as a WP:Reliable source
#2 is written by one of the institute's founders so is not an independent source
#3 I cannot access all of this source so I may be mistaken but from Google books it appears that this statement is attributed to the author contributions section at the beginning of the book, and is not in-depth coverage coverage of the institute.
#4 is information about a journal and not coverage of the institute. Mgp28 (talk) 17:42, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

The National Institute for the Psychotherapies (NIP) is a psychoanalytically-oriented training institute with a treatment center. Chartered as a non-profit educational facility by the state of New York in 1972, NIP is located in New York City at 71 West 23rd Street.[1]

History

edit

Psychologist Henry Grayson co-founded NIP in 1970, along with psychologists James Fosshage, Kenneth Frank, Clemens Loew, and Henry Lowenheim.[2] [3] The founders envisioned an institute that taught and integrated multiple therapeutic approaches, a philosophy they highlighted by pluralizing the word “psychotherapies” in the institute’s name.

NIP runs twelve training programs, including a five-year program for professionals with graduate degrees outside of psychology, medicine or social work (License Qualifying Program in Psychoanalysis); a four-year psychoanalytic certification program for mental health professionals; training in trauma treatment; graduate and post-graduate student clinical experiences; and continuing educational programs.

Publications

edit

The journal Psychoanalytic Perspectives includes contributors who have been faculty at NIP.[4]
