News Post Seven (NEWSポストセブン, Nyūsu Posuto Sebun) is a Japanese news website operated by the Japanese publisher Shogakukan. It is run by the company's Post Seven editorial bureau (ポスト・セブン編集局), which also edits the weekly magazines Weekly Post and Josei Seven.[1] Launched on September 30, 2010, it republishes content drawn from four Shogakukan magazines — Weekly Post, Josei Seven, SAPIO, and MoneyPost — alongside original reporting, with the slogan "FOR ALL THE NEWS-LOVERS."[2]
History and profile
[edit]Shogakukan announced the site at a media briefing on September 29, 2010, and it went live the following day.[2] At launch it combined the editorial content of four Shogakukan magazines — the general weekly Weekly Post (週刊ポスト, Shūkan Posuto), the women's weekly Josei Seven, and the magazines SAPIO and MoneyPost — selecting stories of interest to internet readers, some of whose wording is adjusted out of consideration for underage viewers, and republishing them with new web-oriented headlines alongside an archive of past magazine articles.[2][1] The launch covered the genres of entertainment, sports, politics, economy, household, money, and gravure, and targeted roughly a dozen new articles a day.[2] The site did not replace the magazines' own websites; Weekly Post and Josei Seven continued to update the separate official sites they already maintained, while MoneyPost remained a section of the Weekly Post site and SAPIO launched no website of its own.[3]
Within two months of its launch the site exceeded twelve million page views a month, far above the initial projection of one million, prompting Shogakukan to strengthen its servers and network capacity.[4]
News Post Seven's articles are also syndicated to a network of partner news sites, including Livedoor News, Niconico News, Gadget Tsūshin, Ameba News, Excite News, BIGLOBE News, and @nifty News.[5]
Satellite sites
[edit]On July 28, 2016, Shogakukan opened four satellite sites in parallel under the News Post Seven brand: Daietto Post Seven (ダイエットポストセブン, diet), Kaigo Post Seven (介護ポストセブン, nursing care), and two topic-focused "Post Seven Lab" sites on hair-regrowth and on water purifiers.[6]
Retracted report (2020)
[edit]On November 11, 2020, News Post Seven published an article headlined "Possible large-scale cluster at the National Defense Academy; problems in the COVID-19 response," reporting that infections at the National Defense Academy had surged to the tens and that infected students were being isolated on campus.[7] The following day, statements from the Defense Academy and Yokosuka city clarified that no such large-scale cluster had occurred, and the article was taken down.[7][8]
