Nid yw Cymru ar Werth (Wales is not for sale) is a slogan used in Welsh politics in opposition to second homes.
Background
editSecond homes in Wales has been a longstanding controversial issues. In the 1980s, Welsh nationalist group Meibion Glyndŵr was responsible for over 200 arson attacks against English-owned second homes in Wales. As of 2024, one out of every six houses in the Eryri National Park in North Wales is either a second home or oeprated as a short-term let.[1]

edit1500 people attended a demonstration in Caernarfon in May 2023 named under the slogan and organised by Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg.[2]
A September 2024 rally in Machynlleth was addressed by Plaid Cymru deputy leader Delyth Jewell.[3]
Vandalism
editIn September 2024, a road sign marking the entrance to Beaumaris was vandalised with the slogan.[4]
Perspectives
editOsian Jones of Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg stated that "while our communities are losing housing stock and local people are having to leave their communities, neither our councils nor the Government are doing enough, or acting quickly enough."[5]
In popular culture
editGwenno's 2022 album Tresor contained a song titled "N.Y.C.A.W.", after the slogan. She further displayed the slogan during her performance at the Glastonbury Festival 2023.[6]
