- Comment: Doesn't appear to meet WP:NPOL or the WP:GNG in its current state. NPOL requires that you hold a public office, not just run for it. While they are a seemingly popular YouTuber, that alone isn't enough to meet the GNG. Considering the last two deletion nominations for this topic regarding the issues I mention, this would most likely be deleted again if accepted in its current state. Deauthorized. (talk) 00:04, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: Has not demonstrated what has changed since the last deletion nomination, almost the entirety of the article is a summary of his YouTube activities and a summary of each video. See WP:NPOL, WP:ONEEVENT and WP:YTN. Karnataka (talk) 22:35, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: Please indicate reasons why anything would have changed since Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Niko Omilana (2nd nomination) just a month ago. People still don't get articles just for being unsuccessful candidates in mayoral elections, and YouTubers aren't "inherently" notable just for being YouTubers per se either, so what else has changed since February to make recreation of a new article about Niko Omilana warranted? Nikolas "Niko" Omilana, formerly known as omilana7, is a British YouTuber, politician, and comedian, who is known for his comedy videos, pranks, challenges, and for his candidacy in the 2021 London mayoral election. As of December 2023, Niko Omilana has approximately 7,280,000 subscribers and over 604 million video views.[3][4] He is a member of the group Beta Squad. He is a YouTuber who has gained popularity for his parody videos, original comedic sketches, pranks, and various vlog entries. He is also the founder of the NDL Movement (Niko Defence League) along with being the owner of the NDL[5] Youtube channel. One of Niko's most popular videos is a video in which he requested an interview with the Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, Thomas Robb, by pretending to be a reporter from the BBC.[6][better source needed]
Career
editYouTube
editNiko started his YouTube channel on June 21, 2011, at the age of 13. He regularly created skits and FIFA gameplay content, sometimes with fellow YouTuber Johnny Carey.
The most popular videos on his channel are "Fake Employee Prank" videos. He has pretended to be an employee at multiple chains, including McDonald's, Subway, Apple Store, Asda, Tesco, Ikea and Starbucks. He ended up getting banned from every Ikea and Asda Store in the United Kingdom and Ireland. He collaborates with YouTubers such as Chunkz, Sharky, KingKennyTv, and AJ Shabeel. He has also collaborated with The Zac and Jay Show, among others.
Mayoral candidacy
editOn April 2nd, 2021, Niko announced his candidacy for the 2021 London mayoral election. Three weeks after his candidacy was announced, Omilana achieved 5% of votership support, placing him as the highest polled independent candidate in these elections.[7] Omilana often commented on how the political system in the UK was "broken for young people", and that he would aim to get more young people voting in the upcoming mayoral election.[8][9][10]
Niko's manifesto included vows to employ more policemen, raise the minimum wage, turn various McDonald's restaurants into social housing, freeze the River Thames, to symbolically cut off all electricity for 1 day, provide free transport for minors, university students, and elders over 69 years, add another eye to the London Eye and rename it to the London Eyes, and return the price of Freddo chocolate bars back to 5 pence.[11] The most emphasized point of his manifesto included telling Boris Johnson, the then-Prime Minister, to "shush".[12]
As an independent candidate, Omilana gained 2% of the vote.[13] This placed him as the most voted independent candidate in the election campaign, attaining just under half the votes that the Liberal Democrats runner, Luisa Porritt, gained. In the process, Omilana beat the Reclaim Party candidate, Laurence Fox.[14] This resulted in Niko Omilana placing fifth out of the twenty candidates running, surpassing full-time politicians in the process, which was considered an impressive feat..[15]
Interviewing Ku Klux Klan Leader Thomas Robb
editOn the 13th of May 2022,[16] Omilana posted a video in which he interviewed the leader of the Ku Klux Klan, Thomas Robb.[17] In the video, Omilana managed to trick Robb into saying "BLM", a term used to promote the Black Lives Matter Movement, and other phrases.[18] Within the interview, Omilana asks if the church[19] Robb was a member of discriminated against admitting specific members, to which Robb later admits that Omilana himself, a mixed Black-British man, wouldn't be welcome in the church.[20] Omilana also pointed out during the video that although Harrison, Arkansas is labelled as one of the most racist towns in America,[21][22][23] most people are not racist, and only a small group of extreme racists give the town its label.
The Biggest Menace
editThe Biggest Menace is a TV show hosted on YouTube.[24] In the show, a series of pranks are performed on global stages to see which participant pulls out of the competition first. In one prank, Omilana confronts Shannon Briggs, causing Briggs to push Omilana against a wall.[25] In another one of the episodes, Omilana pranks the PGA Tour's Rory McIlroy by using a remote-controlled golf ball to attempt to disrupt gameplay.[26] McIlroy, after realizing what Omilana was attempting, ends up picking up the remote-controlled ball and throwing it into the water.
Partnership with Wagamama
editIn 2022, Niko announced a partnership between him and restaurant chain Wagamama. The partnership, titled the 'noodle union club',[27] was put in place to encourage university students to go to the restaurant.[28][29] As part of the campaign, Omilana visited the chain's restaurant in Camden Town on March 28.[30] The campaign was then later expanded to include apprentices in addition to the university students already employed there.[31][32]
