Nisar Babu (born 28 May 1986) is an Indian film director, producer, actor, and scriptwriter, who works in Malayalam cinema. He is best known for his films such as Black Dollar[2014], ECG[2017], and Pursuit of Peace[2018]. Nisar Babu is often known for his collaboration with film directors Khalid Rahman and Chemban Vinod Jose.

Nisar produces movies under the banner Ullaakk Films. Ullaakk produced Asif Ali's new movie BHOOKAMBAM (2024) and Sharaf U Dheen's movie Hello Mummy(2024).[1]

Personal Life

Nisar Babu was born in Malappuram, Kerala to E. Hydrase and A. Nafeesa. Nisar Babu completed his school education at IKTHSS, Malappuram. As a Bachelor of Arts student at Govt. College Malappuram he was elected to the Students' Union and was a union member for two consecutive years. He married Nafiha TP on 09 August 2009, in a simple function held in Malappuram.

Nisar Babu has been part of Malappuram Can, a Facebook-based group that works with the local administration, collecting and distributing relief materials in the aftermath of natural disasters. In 2019 December, the Kerala film Foundation of which Nisar Babu is a part of organized a event 'Shantham' in Kochi promising that the proceedings from the event would be donated to the Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) to help flood victims.[2]

Film Career

After working as an assistant director to Malayalam film director Khalid Rahman for about four years, Babu made his directorial debut with Black Dollar in 2014 starring Rajaji Haneefa. Salt N' Pepper was his first assistant feature Movie. Salt N' Pepper’s Tamil, Telugu , and Hindi remake rights was bought by actor-director Prakash Raj. Assisted Khalid again his third film Love was shot during the pandemic lockdown and set indoors which was released on OTT through Netflix.[3]

Ad Films

Nisar Babu has done ad films for Soinex Group. Ullaakk Films led by Nisar Babu is a production house launched in May 2022. In 2023,Nisar Babu was hired by ACW group Chennai to direct their ad campaign starring Malayalam actor Rony David Raj.[4]

Awards & Recognitions

Nisar Babu, has received recognition for his work as a film director.[5]

Babu's short film ECG earned multiple awards. At the ISC Abu Dhabi Film Festival in 2016, "ECG" won Best Short Film award. The following year, the Indian Association Sharjah Film Festival and In 2018, the Emirates Short Film Festival in Dubai further celebrated the film by presenting it with the Best Short Film award, held at VOX Cinemas Cineplex Dubai.[6]

Also, ECG received the esteemed Best NRI Film award from FEFKA, the Malayalam Movie Directors Union.

At the Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Short Film Festival, 2019 an event organized by the Government of Dubai, Community Development Authority. "Pursuit of Peace" received Best Second Movie.
