Oliver Dickson is a South African broadcaster, news anchor, and columnist. He is known for his work with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), where he anchors prime time news on SABC News[1] and hosts an evening talk radio show on SAfm[2], the only national talk radio station in South Africa. Dickson’s broadcasting work is complemented by his contributions to various media platforms as a writer and commentator.[3]
Early Life and Education
Oliver Dickson was born and raised in Randfontein, located in the West of Gauteng, South Africa. He attended Laerskool Betsie Verwoerd, which later became West Gold Primary School, and later enrolled at Randfontein High School[4][5], where he served on the Senior Leadership Council of the student body. He pursued his higher education at the University of the Witwatersrand[6], where he focused on science, particularly chemistry. During his time at the university, Dickson also became involved in competitive debating, representing the institution in high-level tournaments. In 2016, he achieved significant recognition by being ranked the best debater on the African continent following his performance at the Pan-African University Debating Championships.
Career
Oliver Dickson’s broadcasting career began at prominent South African media outlets, including Talk Radio 702, owned by Primedia, and Yfm, an urban youth radio station under E Media Investments. His experience on these platforms helped establish him as a versatile media personality with a broad appeal. He currently holds key positions at the SABC, Africa’s largest broadcaster, where he is a prime time news anchor on SABC News. In addition, Dickson hosts an evening talk show on SAfm, where he engages in discussions on national and international current affairs.
